Do you have any idea… how much darkness lurks in your heart?
I remember a dream I had last year. It was the most horrifying dream I’ve EVER had. I was so frightened when I woke up that I went out of the room to catch my breath and pray.
No, it wasn’t a dream about monsters or spirits or ghosts or anything like that. It was something much… MUCH more terrifying. To describe the dream in detail would be uncomfortable for me to share, but the gist of it is: Us.
Most if not all of us automatically assume that we would never murder, rape, or steal billions of dollars in public office. But my question for you is;
How do you know?
Do you realize what we are capable of? What makes you think that anyone is immune to such temptations?
Another question; can you truly trust someone?
Just because you call someone your best friend; that means he/she doesn’t talk behind your back?
Just because he/she is a pastor; he/she wouldn’t do drugs?
Just because your spouse says “I love you,” does that mean he/she isn’t lusting over someone else?
Just because he/she is a family member, he/she wouldn’t steal from you? He/she won’t lie to you?
Won’t…….
…….kill you?
This is a heavy topic. And I’m sorry if I’m making you uncomfortable. But that’s what my dream was. And that’s what’s terrifying about it: it CAN happen. Because you see, that is the fallen nature of man. The fallen nature of “you.” The fallen nature of “me.”
Sometimes, when the Bible talks about the fallen nature, you think, “Oh sure, we have fallen, it’s probably not that bad. A few sins here and there but I can take it.”
Well those sins include the Holocaust, blowing up the Twin Towers, assassinating presidents, and many other horrifying things. THAT is the the fallen nature of man. It isn’t something you can just brush off and take lightly. EVERYONE is capable of such things. That includes me, that includes yourself. And how do you run away from yourself? You are that “man” the Bible talks about. You have fallen.
My friend, do you now know…..
…..how much we need a Savior?
You think Jesus died just for petty sins? He died for ALL our sins. He forgave every single one. From lying to a friend, to mass murder of children.
That, is called grace. None of us really deserved such forgiveness. But while we were still sinners, He died for us.
I’m posting this song that I recorded a few months back. It’s a cover. And it’s not a song about you or me. It’s about our Savior. Just him… and His beauty. We don’t deserve to be the center of anything.
